Taking a week off to try and sort my stomach out. Very very nearly shit myself in the back of a taxi yesterday whilst waiting at traffic lights in the centre of Nukus. I went to Uzbekistan in the army. Unfortunately the people in charge of us acted like it was Afghanistan. We were not allowed to leave the base. The local people who worked there spoke Russian, not Uzbek.

As Benjamin was walking through the open air market in the first few minutes of the vid, I had the impression that the last rainfall there might have been decades past. I can't recall the last time I saw a place that looked so devoid of vegetation of any kind, or where the ground looked so dry. The people on the bus were so cool! holy zeus, that intitial place is desolate and looks crazy inhospitable. reminds me of some of the places I visited in Vietnam where the town was just a few basic structures and only traveling markets set up for the day. the lack of greenery is stark. Moynak story is terrifylingly sad. Such stupidity and short term vision of humans.

It's sad to watch the 'remains of the Aral Sea', this is almost like a glimpse of what's to come. If we continue destroying our planet, there will be many more dead beaches, lakes and rivers.

Sad story. Probably these people are just very small portion of many victims of soviet so called planning economy. People living in areas included in so called specialist's plans were the last aspect considered. However I must say levels of ability to adjust to new circumstances amazes me very much. The new circumstances mostly didn't improve quality of life. They only increased records reflecting economical growth mostly fake and far from reality.
