Just leave moral factors away temporarily, in terms of benifit, you can get to understand that it's far better than Westeners' slave trade, at least it is beneficial to both sides. Africans get more improved life quality, while China get money (or you can also call it capital)along with reputation among the third world. I don't know what those so-called debt traps mean. They, Africans, need basic fractures, which need money, which need loan, which need pay back, and if they don't choose China, they can still choose others or none. No matter how undeveploped Africa is, Africans themselves can make sense.

For $80 I can drive 1100km and take only 2 short breaks to fuel up, for an overall trip time of about 10hrs. With an EV that would become 20-25hrs, making a day trip into a literal DAY trip.

Magic number that has no basis in the reality of what anyone needs. Both for range and for recharge time. Because MOST people aren't driving 291 miles in a week and with an electric car, it's full to 85% every morning ready for your morning commute and is you set if up right, warmed up inside or cooled down depending on your settings.

"not as convienent as DRIVING to a gas station and filling up the gas tank. blah blah blah..." So waking up to a full tank every morning isn't as convienent as driving somewhere to fuel up... Umm... I call BS. Tesla has over 20,000 superchargers. No one else has that number and a lot of the competition chargers don't work when you need them. Only time on the road charging becomes an issue is during Looong distant drives... where you can charge up during a bathroom/meal break or overnight as usual.

The main issue is that EVs are still too expensive. While I appreciate the sentiment and agree that charging infrastructure is a big deal (especially in the US), this isn't #1. 36k isn't mass market. In fact it's just shy of the luxury segment entry point. Most people can't afford 36k. The most popular cars by volume start at 20-25k new, while 2 to 3 used cars are sold for every new car sale. Meaning the amount most people can spend on a car isn't anywhere close to 36k. On top of that, there just aren't enough EVs being manufactured to count as mass adoption.

It's a shame food and drink companies don't use bio-degradable packaging now. I know its all down to money and profits, but theres many options for degradable packaging. I reuse water bottles for as long as I can, I reuse shoe boxes, amazon and other delivery boxes. Whatever I can I'll reuse. I believe some UK waste companies burn normal waste but use the heat and smoke from it to create power which it sells back to the grid to power everything. Glad to know most of the waste it taken care of here.

Also you can tell this was written by someone who doesn't drive an EV because the entire premise of the video is wrong and everyone who buys an EV understands within a week that what the consumer thinks they need before an EV could suit them is not at all in touch with reality.

The batteries should be swapped out at a "gas" station... Eventually swapping batteries rather than recharging will be the way it's done... You'll pay only for the juice and the "rental" of the battery... but you'll never own the battery... just rent them and swap them out when needed. It will be faster than refilling a car with gasoline. Oh... and gas engines waste 75% of your gas in HEAT. They are only 25% efficient! Electric motors are more than 95% efficient. Electric is soooo much better, and your car will last for 500,000 miles...

For the vast majority of drivers the majority of their driving is city driving. Long distance highway travel occurs only 2-3 times a year. The incredibly simple solution to the problem that this video correctly identifies is to give up on the idea of relying on EVs for long distance travel. Focus instead on building really good PHEVs with decent electric range of 50-75 miles. This allows us to cut our reliance on gasoline by 75% instead of 100%, but we could do it very quickly because it does not require the installation of a huge and expensive infrastructure of Fast DC chargers on the nation's highways and the development of faster charging technology. Focus instead on proving a network of very affordable level 2 chargers in cities that serves not only single family dwellings but apartments and condos as well.

We still have a problem though. Where and how is all this electricity made. If electric cars are going to be mass produced, every country will basically have to tripple or quadruple their electricity output, if not much more. This then means more coal has to be mined for power stations. Realistically, wind and solar will never be able to maintain it as at there is not enough space on earth to fill it with wind turbines or solar panels to power everything on earth. Fosil fuels are here to stay. We just have to consume less. Green energy is a myth as they cannot operate without fossil fuels. Who wants to get rid of the V6 or V8 motors in any event. Not me.

I think that Solid State battery technology will eventually tip the scales. That said, I also think that eventually one type of plug and charging system will need to be adopted across the board, and become the universal standard. Right now we're in a situation similar to when VHS and Beta-Max were battling it out back in the late 70's and early 80's. Eventually VHS won out, and that format ruled the roost until the advent of the DVD player.

The main roadblock to adoption isn't charging, it's consumer knowledge/education. EVs aren't 'fueled' like combustion engines. Most (though admittedly not all) people have space at home for off-street parking and thus a home charger. People won't need to fuel up within 4 mins of home, because they'll need to fill up at such an establishment far less often, and only on long distance drives, where the lower density of charging opportunities won't be a problem.
